Artist Mr. CHEA Vuthea
You, too, can have your photos beautifully drawn by young artist Vuthea to their amazing likeness, and in the process support and encourage his talent and skills.
Unfortunately, Vuthea does not speak English or have access to email so I have arranged for my personal assistant Sivnin to facilitate the transaction given her language skills as well as exposure to the overseas Cambodian and international community. I've asked that Sivnin charge a small commission for her time which is 100% hers to keep (inclusive of the prices listed below). Ms. EAM Sivnin This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. My contribution is purely pro bono in expanding the marketplace and opportunities for Vuthea and the young... Well, I do derive the pleasure and benefits in furthering the arts and the opportunities of young Cambodians.
Anyone who has visited me at home has seen the stairwell full of Chea Vuthea's portrait drawings of Cambodian children and dancers, right alongside photographs given to me by iconic Al Rockoff of Phnom Penh on 17 April 1975 and a few days before, as well as those by the amazing Emerson photography professor Lauren Shaw.
Price of drawings and framing
On 29 April 2010, I showed Vuthea the outpouring of support and interest in his work and spoke more formally with him and Sivnin about their arrangement and his price structure, which is basically:
- one portrait/person on a 25 cm x 35 cm paper starts at $25; add $15 for each additional portrait/person. (In this regard, a drawing is not a photograph; one photo with one person or 2 or 3 persons only takes one click, whereas a drawing of one person or 2 or 3 persons varies in time and energy.)
- one portrait/person on a 40 cm x 60 cm paper starts at $45; add $15 for each additional portrait/person.
I am volunteering my time and energy for this, but Sivnin is not. There are transactional costs (a few dollars, very reasonable) in engaging Sivnin for her time, skills and connection; it is only fair. Vuthea understands/agrees to the important role Sivnin plays in furthering his work. Please allow for 2 - 3 weeks for each drawing.
